This was a no brainer when it came down to why I wanted to raise money for Tedy's Team. We all have someone, or know of someone who has had a stroke and or heart disease. My husband Russy's grandmother, whom he cherished deeply, had a stroke late in life. My mother has worked for the Progessive Care and Stroke Unit (PCSU) at Mission Hospital for over 20 years now. One day when I visited her at work, I noticed she had 6 brain pins attached to her hospital badge. She begins to tell me that those pins have great significance. Each one represents how she was able to detect a stroke in the moment it occured and the patient was able to receive treatment right away. In other words she's a super hero which I think is pretty amazing.
There is one person who hits home for Russy and I and that is Pastor Mark Holm who officiated our wedding and that is because he was the one that brought Russy and I together. Everytime I think of us, our marriage, and the counseling we did, I can't not think of Pastor Holm because of the major role he played in our lives to make it all possible. I'll always remember when he told me weeks before our wedding day "If Russy does anything you don't like you tell me". He made me feel during our marital counseling like I was one of his kids, protective and cracking jokes left and right. He is such a phenomenal human being and without him Russy and I wouldn't be "official". One of his greatest pastime is singing and for Russy's 20 year homecoming high school reunion he, along with one of Pastor Holm's daughters' Lynsey, sang a song that Pastor Holm taught them many moons ago. There is beauty all around us, in events that happen for no reason, when you look at the silver lining of life you really can find such wonder.
It is an honor to represent Tedy's Team and know that I'll be running my heart out in September for each person who has gone through so much in their life because of stroke and heart disease. Thank you so much for your support in helping me raise money for this great cause, and as their slogan says " #wesurvivewerun" that is what I will continue to do for those who can't.
