Running for Tedy's Team!
Brian and Joanna are going to run the Vermont City Marathon and raise money for Tedy's Team!
Brian's Story
This past December, 2023, my wife Allison arrived home after a normal day at work; when she called me from the driveway for help, I was totally unprepared for how this night would change our lives. After an ambulance ride and then a hospital transfer, Allison was finally settled in the room she'd be in for about a week. She had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. It was an incredibly scary, traumatic experience for her, which only makes me so much more proud of her and her progress. She's driving, working and while there are lingering effects, she's very much back to her normal self. I will be thinking about Allison all 26 (and two tenths!) miles during the Vermont City Marathon, along with the amazing medical professionals who helped her get to where she is. It is my hope that your donation will help as many people who, like Allison, can return to their lives with the right support and care!
Joanna's Story
In October of 2000 a close family member of mine suffered a stroke. Thankfully his partner recognized the signs and he was treated rapidly. His recovery involved speech therapy, but we are all incredibly grateful for his full recovery. On May 26th, I'll be thinking about him, and my friends Brian and Allison the WHOLE way. I'll be running the Vermont City Marathon to express my gratitude for the medical professionals and researchers who made these successful recoveries possible. Your donation will directly benefit people who suffer from stroke and their families.
The mission of Tedy's Team is to raise awareness for stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey, giving them a means for a comeback!
Tedy's Team was originally founded in 2005, when Tedy Bruschi, former linebacker for the New England Patriots suffered a stroke shortly after winning his 3rd Super Bowl and just days after returning from his first Pro Bowl. to learn more about who we are, please see our website, www.tedysteam.org.
We are honored to be part of the Official Charity Program of the TCS NYC Marathon for 2023.
New York Road Runners has allowed us to utilize their platform to elevate the awareness of the warning signs of stroke, which are best remembered by using the acronym BE FAST, which stands for:
- Balance Difficulties
- Eyesight Changes
- Face Drooping
- Arm Weakness
- Speech Difficulties - and if you notice any of those warning signs, it's...
- TIME TO CALL 9-1-1.
- Chest pain and discomfort
- Lightheadedness, nausea or vomiting
- Jaw, neck of back pain
- Discomfort or pain in the arm or shoulder
- Shortness of breath
