I am so excited to be raising funds for Tedy's Team! Here is a look into why I am joining this cause:
It was April 2020; I was 34 years old and in peak physical condition. I worked out up to 3 hours a day. My activity included CrossFit and CrossFit-style workouts, coaching group fitness classes, swimming, and LOTS of running. I adored running in half-marathons, obstacle races, and even managed to finish one full-marathon.
I awoke one morning to severe neck pain and, shortly after, began having bouts of vertigo, nausea, dizziness, vision problems, severe migraines, fatigue and some one-sided weakness and numbness. I was eventually flown to a stroke treatment center where I was diagnosed with Spontaneous Bilateral Vertebral Artery Dissection (VAD) with Multiple Cerebellar Strokes.
Healing was uncertain and frustrating. My dizziness stuck with me for many months and the brain fog from the strokes was intense. My activity was limited to short walks. And I was told I may never get back to my previous lifestyle, including running.
Still, I was a very lucky survivor; within 4 months, my neurologist cleared me for light activity. I began building my cardio back, and by 6 months post-diagnosis I ran a 10K! In March, I was able to reach my insane goal to run the Oakland Marathon and thrived! Next came the Humboldt Bay Marathon on August 14th, 2022. I'm not sure what's next, but the possibilities are endless. I want to take this opportunity to continue to raise money and awareness for VAD survivors and victims of storkes. Thanks to Tedy’s Team to allow me this chance to give back!
