Welcome to Karli's New York City Marathon fundraising page!

Thank you so much for visiting my site and for considering donating to Tedy's Team through my cause!
I run for my Grandfather, Paul, and my Dad, Wayne!
My grandfather had a severe stroke when I was 6. He was my very best friend when I was little and I remember following him around and asking him all about everything on my young mind. He was so kind and gentle and loved having a young granddaughter to share his knowledge with. After his stroke, he had to re-learn how to walk, talk, read and write, even use a fork and knife, and we were by his side for all of it—unfortunately, he was never able to make a full recovery and had memory and speech issues and was very unstable on his feet for the next 20 years.
This had a profound effect on my father as my grandfather worked a lot when my dad was growing up and, at the time of his stroke, had recently retired. They were just starting to be able to spend a lot of time together— cooking, woodworking, fishing and letting me tag along for all of it.
After my grandfather’s stroke, our roles all switched and instead of my grandfather taking care of us, we all learned how to care for him. My dad cherished all his time with his dad and loved to talk of all our memories together— summer’s on the lake, train trips to Montreal, special recipes of his that we still make today…
Unfortunately my father had an irregular heart beat and passed away suddenly from a heart event about four and a half years ago. We’d known about his heart problem for about 15 years, he’d had all his check ups and everything looked good, but something just must not have been right. Running for Tedy’s Team helps me honor my dad because it keeps the memory of my grandfather alive. By raising money for Tedy’s Team, I can help others families as more research helps prevent more strokes.

The mission of Tedy's Team is to raise awareness for stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey, giving them a means for a comeback!
Tedy's Team was originally founded in 2005, when Tedy Bruschi, former linebacker for the New England Patriots suffered a stroke shortly after winning his 3rd Super Bowl and just days after returning from his first Pro Bowl.
We are honored to be part of the Offical Charity Program of the Boston Marathon. The Boston Athletic Association has allowed us to utilize their platform to elevate the awareness of the warning signs of stroke, which are best remembered by using the acronym BE FAST, which stands for:
- Balance Difficulties
- Eyesight Changes
- Face Drooping
- Arm Weakness
- Speech Difficulties - and if you notice any of those warning signs, it's...
- TIME TO CALL 9-1-1.
- Chest pain and discomfort
- Lightheadedness, nausea or vomiting
- Jaw, neck of back pain
- Discomfort or pain in the arm or shoulder
- Shortness of breath
